PARK CITY — Elle Driver/Wild Bunch has picked up foreign rights to the music documentary Twenty Feet From Stardom.
The film, which premiered at Eccles Theatre on Jan. 17, was produced by veteran record executive Gil Friesen, whose dream was to tell the story of the industry’s unheralded back-up singers. Morgan Neville directed.
Neville follows half a dozen diverse and gifted back-up singers spanning music history, each of whom emerge from the shadows of superstardom. Interviews include Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Joe Cocker and Bette Midler.
“We feel these stories need to be shared with audiences around the world so everyone can fall in love with these amazing singers and it will be exciting and look forward to collaborating with Elle Driver on the international launch,” Neville said.
Radius acquired North American rights earlier in the festival and will launch theatrically in the United States later this year.
The filmmakers were repped by David Koh and Josh Braun of Submarine. Adeline Fontan Tessaur and Agnes Mentre negotiated on behalf of Elle Driver.
