Sundance 2013: TWC’s Radius Nearing Deal For ‘Lovelace’

The film, which premiered at Eccles Theatre on Jan. 22, is being acquired for about $3 million.

Sundance 2013: TWC's Radius Nearing Deal 'Lovelace'

Deep Throat, the first pornographic feature film to be a mainstream success, was an international sensation in 1972 and made its star, Linda Lovelace, a media darling. Years later the “poster girl for the sexual revolution” revealed a darker side to her story. Cast: Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Hank Azaria, Adam Brody, James Franco, Sharon Stone.

The Weinstein Co.’s Radius label is nearing a deal to acquire North American rights to Lovelace for about $3 million, a source confirms to THR.

The film will receive a VOD and theatrical release. Lovelace premiered at Eccles Theatre on Tuesday night as part of Sundance’s Premieres category.

Lovelace tells the true story of Linda Lovelace — the star of Deep Throat, the first pornographic feature film to be embraced by the mainstream. The film is from directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (who were behind 2010 Sundance opening-night selection Howl) and screenwriter Andy Bellin.

Amanda Seyfried plays the titular character; the film co-stars Peter Sarsgaard, Hank Azaria, Adam Brody, James Franco and Sharon Stone.

The producers were Heidi Jo Markel, Laura Rister, Jason Weinberg and Jim Young. The project was financed by Millennium Films.
