Ahead of its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, comedy Don Verdean has been acquired by Lionsgate for North America.
The film is directed by Napolean Dynamite and Nacho Libre helmer Jared Hess. Starring Sam Rockwell, Jemaine Clement, Amy Ryan, Danny McBride, Leslie Bibb and Will Forte, Don Verdean centers on a biblical archeologist who is hired by a local church pastor to find faith-promoting relics in the Holy Land. But after a fruitless expedition, he is forced to get creative.
The comedy, written by husband-and-wife team Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess, was produced by Brandt Andersen, Jared Hess and Dave Hunter.
Don Verdean, which is part of the Premieres section, will play at Sundance on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
