Richard Bates Jr., the director behind the Sundance movie Trash Fire, has signed with UTA for representation.
The movie stars Adrian Grenier, who confronts his past when he brings his girlfriend to meet his estranged and deranged grandmother and emotionally scarred sister.
Fire premiered in the midnight sidebar of the Sundance Film Festival. The screening became buzzworthy after Bates proposed to his girlfriend during the movie’s Q&A.
The film is currently being sold by XYZ and Preferred Content.

Bates is known for his penchant for horror-oriented material. His film Excision starred AnnaLynne McCord and premiered in the 2012 Sundance Film Festival’s midnight section. His 2014 film Suburban Gothic premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
He is currently working on his next script, which will follow a series of unconventional romantic relationships.
