Based on an original screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Ride Along), the modern Los Angeles crime thriller will be directed by Karyn Kusama (The Invitation, Girlfight) and fully financed by upstart 30WEST. Automatik’s Fred Berger (La La Land) is producing alongside Hay and Manfredi, who also wrote and produced Kusama’s The Invitation (Kusama is married to Hay).
Rocket Science is handling international sales, which began at AFM, where Bliss Media acquired distribution rights to Destroyer in China. ICM Partners and CAA are representing North American rights to the film.
The story centers on LAPD detective Erin Bell (Kidman), who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a cult-like gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.
Maslany won an Emmy for her role on BBC America’s Orphan Black, which wrapped its five-season run earlier this year. She most recently starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the Lionsgate biopic Stronger, and also appeared in the films The Other Half, Two Lovers and a Bear, Woman in Gold and The Vow. The actress is repped by ICM Partners and The Characters Talent Agency.
Stan will next be seen opposite Margot Robbie in I, Tonya, which 30WEST is co-distributing with Neon and is set to bow in December. He currently is filming the next installment of the Avengers series, and previously appeared in I’m Not Here, Logan Lucky, The Martian and Black Swan. The actor is repped by ICM Partners and Brookside Artist Management.
