TORONTO – Quebec actress Sophie Desmarais, to star in the Un certain regard section title Sarah pre?fe?re la course by Chloe? Robichaud, has been tapped for Telefilm Canada’s 10 Canadians to Watch at Cannes sidebar.
Robichaud, whose short film Chef de meute was part of the official selection at Cannes last year, will also attend as part of the Canadian talent showcase as her debut feature screens at the festival this year.
Desmarais and Robichaud will be joined by indie producer Martin Katz of Prospero Pictures, in Cannes to promote David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars at the market, and micro_scope’s Kim McCraw and Luc De?ry, producers of the Oscar nominees Incendies, by Denis Villeneuve, and Philippe Falardeau’s Monsieur Lazhar.
McCraw and De?ry will be on the Croissette to promote their latest project, Emanuel Hoss-Desmarais’ Whitewash, to star Thomas Haden Church.
Other Canadian talent in the Telefilm Canada showcase include Entertainment One’s Charlotte Mickie, Canadian director Jefferson Moneo, whose short film Going South is one of 18 Cine?fondation films in Cannes, producer Stephane Rituit, and Canadian directors Rob Stewart and Kyle Thomas.
