A year after Boyhood, Ethan Hawke is playing another cool dad in Ten Thousand Saints.
Set in the late ‘80s in grimy Manhattan, the trailer shows Les (Hawke) whisking his son Jude (Asa Butterfield) away from his mom’s house in Vermont to bustling New York City.
The father and son hang out with Les’ girlfriend (Emily Mortimer) and her worldly daughter Eliza (Hailee Steinfeld). Jude also meets up with old buddy Johnny (Emile Hirsch) who fronts a hardcore punk band.
But the good times come to a screeching halt when Eliza blurts out that she’s pregnant. Meanwhile, both Jude and Les struggle to grow up and become responsible caretakers.
Screen Media Films acquired Ten Thousand Saints, written and directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini from Eleanor Henderson‘s novel, after its Sundance debut.
Ten Thousand Saints set for an Aug. 14 release
In his review, The Hollywood Reporter‘s John DeFore called the film “smart, sensitive, and accessible to both young and middle-aged viewers.”
