Kurtwood Smith, the character actor who might be most recognizable for playing Topher Grace’s dad on The 70s Show, has landed a role in Fox Searchlight’s Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho.

Anthony Hopkins is starring as Hitchcock, Helen Mirren is his wife, Scarlett Johansson is playing Janet Leigh and James D’Arcy is portraying Anthony Perkins in the drama.
Smith will play Geoffrey Shurlock, the administrator of the Motion Picture Production Code, the precursor to the MPAA.
The cast also includes Jessica Biel, Danny Huston and Toni Collette.
The project is based on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello that tracks how Hitchcock, at the height of his game as a director, decided to make a “lowly” horror movie.
Kurtwood was last seen as a regular on the CBS series Chaos and last year appeared in Cedar Rapids, also released by Fox Searchlight. He’s currently voicing a role in Dreamworks Animation’s Turbo. He is repped by Progressive Artists Agency and Pop Art Management.
