Upset that Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to be Loki-free? Here’s something to make you feel a little better: Thor: The Dark World is going to have more Loki than originally intended, with all-new scenes being created to showcase the character after the first round of shooting was completed.
Talking to Collider’s Steven Weintraub, The Dark World director Alan Taylor said that, despite the movie’s October release date, “we continue to, what [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige calls, ‘plus the movie,’ [with] new scenes being added even now.
“We’re doing full scenes, scenes that were not in the movie before. We’re adding scenes, creating scenes, writing scenes for the first time,” he continued. “We realized how well Loki was working in the movie, and we wanted to do more with him. So it was that kind of thing, it was like, ‘Oh, we could do this, we could jam this in here because he’s such a wonderful guy to watch do his stuff.'”

This kind of last-minute tinkering isn’t anything new for Marvel, Taylor said. “They will work down to the wire. Kevin Feige’s always trying to make the film better, see if he can push it up. I saw them do this on Iron Man 3, I saw them do it on Avengers; they have to kind of pry it out of Marvel’s hands and put it up on screens because he never wants to stop improving things, so that’s the phase we’re in right now.”
Somewhere, the Tom Hiddleston-loving parts of Tumblr — which is to say, most of Tumblr — is very, very happy about the idea that there’s more Loki than previously expected to come. Now, if only he can be worked into the next Captain America movie as well.
