Toronto Film Critics Name ‘Boyhood’ Best Picture

Richard Linklater‘s Boyhood was named best picture on Tuesday by the Toronto Film Critics Association.

The film also earned Linklater the best director trophy and Patricia Arquette the best supporting actress honor for her role as the young protagonist’s mother. Toronto critics gave Tom Hardy the best actor prize for his star turn in Locke, while Marion Cotillard won the best actress prize for The Immigrant.

Whiplash‘s J.K. Simmons earned the best supporting actor prize, while Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel won for best screenplay. Isao Takahata’s The Tale of the Princess Kaguya took the best animated feature prize, Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox was named best first feature, and Ruben Ostlund’s Force Majeure won best foreign-language film.

Toronto film critics also shortlisted Denis Villeneuve’s Enemy, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, The F Word, directed by Michael Dowse, and Xavier Dolan‘s Mommy for the best Canadian feature film prize.

The 2014 TFCA Awards will be presented at a gala dinner in Toronto on Jan. 6, 2015, when the winner of the best Canadian feature prize will be announced.
