MADRID – Provisional year-end figures show Santiago Segura‘s politically incorrect cop comedy Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis sitting atop the Spanish box office receipts with 19.6 million euros ($25.6 million), ahead of Twilight: Dawn Part 1 and The Adventures of Tintin.
If the ranking stands, it will be the first time a Spanish film tops the Spanish year-end box office. As of Dec. 27, Twilight had earned 19.49 million euros ($25.4 million) and Tintin another 18 million ($23.5 million).
Ahead of official figures, Spanish daily El Pais released provisional figures that showed Spanish films capturing 15.3 percent of the market, 3 percent over last year, with 95.7 million euros ($125 million) compared to 2010’s 80 million. Even so, El Pais’ figures show a drop in overall ticket sales from 2010’s 99 million to just over 95 million.
Other Spanish productions to fare well according to Rentrak Spain: Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, produced by Mediapro with 7.9 million euros ($10.3 million) and Pedro Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In with 4.6 million euros ($6 million).
