Watch the Trailers for Eight of March’s Most Anticipated Movies

With awards season over, film fans can turn their attention to the new movies hitting theaters. While the tentpole-heavy summer season is still a few months away, March features a number of eagerly awaited titles, including several sequels and follow-ups. Neill Blomkamp‘s latest Chappie and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel kick off the month, with Divergent sequel Insurgent arriving on March 20 and Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence‘s latest onscreen collaboration (albeit one filmed before Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle), Serena, closing out the month on March 27.

Meanwhile, Disney will see if its live-action fairy-tale remake formula will work with Cinderella on March 13 and DreamWorks Animation releases its only 2015 movie, Home — featuring the voices of Rihanna, Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin — on March 27.

The month also sees Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart joining forces in Get Hard and Noah Baumbach exploring what happens when Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts try to relive their youth in While We’re Young, both hitting theaters on the 27th.

Chappie (March 6): Hollywood’s latest robot movie, Chappie, stars Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley as the titular police robot who can also think and feel. For fans of director Neill Blomkamp, who’s working on a script for a new Alien film, Chappie marks an eagerly awaited follow-up to his last two films, District 9 and Elysium. The film also features Jackman in a rare villain role. Chappie is on track to top the domestic box office in its opening weekend despite poor reviews and what’s expected to be a lower opening-weekend gross than District 9 or Elysium.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (March 6): Fox Searchlight’s first-ever sequel is a follow-up to the surprise international hit The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which earned $136.8 million worldwide and was nominated for Golden Globe, BAFTA and SAG Awards. Once again directed by John Madden and written by Ol Parker, the sequel features returning stars Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy and Dev Patel alongside new additions Richard Gere, Episodes‘ Tamsin Greig and Good Night, and Good Luck‘s David Strathairn. The sequel explores Patel’s character’s attempt to expand the successful titular hotel, which is almost entirely occupied by elderly Brits who have moved to India, while he also plans his wedding. Strathairn plays a financier while Gere and Greig are new guests.

Cinderella (March 13): Disney’s latest live-action revival of one of its classic animated fairy tales stars up-and-comer Lily James (previously known for her role in Downton Abbey) as the titular glass-slipper wearer. The Kenneth Branagh-directed film, written by Chris Weitz, also features Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy godmother and Richard Madden as Prince Charming. The first trailer for the film amassed a record 4.2 million views on YouTube and 33 million views on Facebook in its first 24 hours, the biggest showing in history for a non-Marvel Disney movie. The film is already getting stellar reviews, with The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney writing, “Girls, of course, will be the core constituency for this enchanting retelling. But anyone nostalgic for childhood dreams of transformation will find something to enjoy in an uplifting movie that invests warm sentiment in universal themes of loss and resilience, experience and maturity.” The film puts Cinderella and the prince on more equal footing, as more of a modern approach to the story, and also features impressive CG work, set pieces and costumes. A new Frozen short film will also screen in front of the movie.

Insurgent (March 20): The second installment in the film franchise based on Veronica Roth‘s best-selling young-adult trilogy returns Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Theo James, Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller. The sequel, directed by R.I.P.D. helmer Robert Schwentke after Divergent director Neil Burger bowed out of the follow-up, continues the inter-faction battle as the Divergents fight the increasingly powerful Erudites.

Get Hard (March 27): Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell team up in this R-rated buddy movie about a bank manager (Ferrell) who’s wrongfully convicted of a white-collar crime and enlists Hart’s character to help him prepare for his time behind bars. Alison Brie and Craig T. Nelson co-star.

Home (March 27): DreamWorks Animation’s sole 2015 release features the voices of Rihanna, The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin. An adaptation of The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex, Home chronicles what happens when Earth is taken over by the Boov, an alien race. Rihanna’s Tip avoids capture and finds herself the accidental accomplice of a banished Boov named Oh (Parsons). The movie, directed by Antz and Over the Hedge co-director Tim Johnson, swapped release dates with DWA’s November film The Penguins of Madagascar.

Serena (March 27): Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence reteam for the third time in this Depression-era film that’s had a rocky road to the big screen. The Oscar-caliber co-stars shot the film more than two years ago, before their David O. Russell films Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle hit theaters. But Serena struggled to find a distributor amid complaints that the heavily edited film “made no sense,” before Magnolia Pictures picked it up September. Directed by Susanne Bier, who helmed 2011’s best foreign-language Oscar winner In a Better World, the romantic melodrama follows two newlyweds (Cooper and Lawrence) in North Carolina in the 1920s. While Cooper’s self-made timber baron attempts to build an empire, Lawrence’s Serena Shaw descends into madness and her ambitions turn violent.

While We’re Young (March 27): The Noah Baumbach-directed film centers around a New York-based documentary filmmaker and his wife (Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts), who begin hanging out with a couple in their 20s (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried). High jinks ensue as the older couple tries to keep up with their younger counterparts, but ultimately Stiller and Watts’ characters come to some sad revelations. A24 bought While We’re Young, which Baumbach also scripted, after the film’s Toronto premiere and will release it in select theaters on March 27. Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz also appears as one half of another couple Stiller and Watts’ characters are friends with.
