TWC-Dimension has acquired worldwide distribution rights to supernatural thriller The Bye Bye Man.
The plot details have not been revealed, but the film will chronicle events that befell three Wisconsin college students in the early 1990s. Jonathan Penner adapted the script from Robert Damon Schneck‘s short story “The Bridge to Body Island.”
It will be directed by Stacy Title, who directed and co-wrote with Penner the short film Down on the Waterfront, which earned them an Oscar nomination in 1994. They’ve collaborated on the Hamlet adaptation Let the Devil Wear Black and the hip-hop horror comedy Hood of Horror.
The TWC-Dimension distribution deal came with a proceed-to-production commitment. Intrepid Pictures will produce The Bye Bye Man, with Intrepid founder Trevor Macy as a producer and co-founder Marc D. Evans and David Prior as executive producers.
TWC-Dimension is the genre distribution arm of Bob and Harvey Weinstein‘s The Weinstein Co. It’s currently set up to distribute projects including Paddington, the family comedy in which Ben Whishaw voices an Anglophile bear, the Emma Watson thriller Regression and the adaptation of Ira Levin‘s play Veronica’s Room, which it is financing and executive producing.
Intrepid’s credits feature plenty of horror, including the Karen Gillan starrer Oculus, the upcoming Somnia from Oculus director Mike Flanagan, the 2007 The Hitcher remake and The Strangers. On its upcoming slate is the Stephen King thriller Gerald’s Game.
The deal for The Bye Bye Man was negotiated by Reder & Feig with TWC-Dimension’s Matthew Signer and senior vp business and legal affairs Adrian Lopez. Signer will oversee production with senior vp production and development Keith Levine for TWC-Dimension.
