Ant-Man’s spell at the top of the U.K. box office may only have been a week long, but Disney will no doubt be pleased that its successor was a title from another of their stables.
Inside Out was by far the dominant force over a rainy weekend, debuting with $11.5 million, one of its best Pixar results for a non-sequel and just a few thousand dollars shy of Finding Nemo in 2003.
With $3.9 million in its second week, Ant-Man was just able to hold off Universal’s Minions ($3.5 million) and give Disney the top two spots. Minions has amassed now an impressive $58 million in five weeks.
Backed by some sizeable media support, Southpaw was the top 10’s only new entrant, Jake Gyllenhaal punching his way to fourth with $2.6 million and knocking Jurassic World to fifth after a record-breaking seven-week stint that has seen it become the biggest film of 2015 so far.
