Michael Wise will lead Universal Pictures’ technology strategy as senior vp and chief technology officer, the studio announced Tuesday.
Wise will begin in his new position this week. He will coordinate all day-to-day technology initiatives and support within the studio, and will work closely with svp and chief information officer Steve Lapinski. Wise will report to president and chief distribution officer Peter Levinsohn.
“Michael’s proven leadership and ability to work across multiple platforms have led to new innovative technologies that consumers use every day,” Levinsohn said in a statement. “We will benefit greatly from his fresh perspective and approach as the industry continues to embrace advancements in the digital space.”
Wise comes to Universal from Turner Broadcasting System, where he most recently served as vp multiplatform distribution technologies. In that capacity, he oversaw the development of the broadcaster’s online video players and other digital media products, as well as the TV Everywhere and CNNgo initiatives. He had been with Turner since 2007.
He previously held roles at AOL and Time Warner, leading anti-piracy initiatives at the latter.
