Universal Studios Hollywood and the Universal Orlando Resort’s annual event will feature a maze based on the sci-fi/horror series. The attraction is in collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox, which produced the Alien, Predator and AVP franchises.
Each park’s maze will have a different narrative: In Hollywood, visitors will find a spaceship carrying the Predators and the Xenomorphs from the Alien series, while in Orlando, the maze will center on a secret Weyland-Yutani corporation bio-weapons facility filled with the warring aliens.
The mazes’ aliens were created from the original molds Tom Woodruff, Jr. and Alec Gillis designed for the 2004 AVP: Alien vs. Predator film. Woodruff, who won a Best Visual Effects Oscar for 1992’s Death Becomes Her, and Gillis also did creature effects for David Fincher‘s Alien 3, for which they were nominated for an Oscar. They also worked together on James Cameron‘s Aliens.

“AVP: Alien vs. Predator is by far the most technically complicated and ambitious maze we’ve ever created for Halloween Horror Nights,” Halloween Horror Nights executive producer John Murdy said in a statement. “It’s a monumental undertaking to re-create these massive, iconic characters for a live event.”
“When attempting to bring two of the most iconic creatures ever put on film to Halloween Horror Nights, you need to rely on everything you’ve learned up to this point,” Universal Orlando’s director of entertainment-creative development Michael Aiello added in the statement. “Puppetry, elaborate costumes and unique environments have all been created in close collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox. Our guests are going to be thrown head-first into this epic battle.”
This year’s Halloween Horror Nights will also feature mazes based on The Walking Dead, Syfy’s Face Off and Robert Rodriguez‘s vampire franchise From Dawn Till Dusk, as well as a “scarezone” based on The Purge. More mazes and scarezones will be revealed leading up to the event, which runs on select nights beginning Sept. 19.
