John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the writing team behind Horrible Bosses who are also directing the new Vacation movie for New Line, have been tapped to do a rewrite of Secret Histories for Sony Pictures Animation.
Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson of the Gotham Group are producing with Greg Little. The feature, which is based on the books by Ari Berk and published by Templar in the U.K., is intended to be a live-action/CG hybrid.
The plot centers on a geeky Dungeons & Dragons-type fan who discovers he may be a half-faerie when a secret order of mythical beings seeks out his help, thrusting him on an international adventure to save the world.
The duo will work from the draft written by Tom Wheeler.
Daley, an actor-turned-writer, and Goldstein, a comedy writer, have turned into one of the town’s hottest writing teams. They wrote the Steve Carell-Jim Carrey magician comedy Burt Wonderstone as well as the script for the Vacation reboot and are working on a Horrible Bosses sequel.
The deal for Histories brings them back with SPA, for which they also worked on Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers, the sequel to the Oscar-nominated Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
The duo are repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson. Daley is additionally repped by iManage.
SPA’s president of production Michelle Raimo Kouyate and director of development Jenny Marchick are overseeing.
