Getty ImagesROME – The Venice Film Festival announced the creation of the new “Final Cut in Venice” workshop initiative that will focus on helping support African cinema in its inaugural edition.
The program will be carried out in collaboration with the Festival International du Film d’Amiens in France and Germany’s Festival International de Film de Fribourg.

The workshop will support four African productions in the post-production phase and will help them finish the project with various in-kind or cash aid, such as digital color correcting, sound mixing, the making of prints, consultations with experts, and other post-production help.
The festival will also present the teams behind the projects to producers, buyers, distributors, and film festival programmers to foster possible partnerships.
The initiative is open to African filmmakers who register and send four copies of the film project in DVD form by June 28. Festival officials will pick four projects from among the qualified applicants.
The 70th edition of the Venice Film Festival will take place Aug. 28 – Sept. 7.
