It’s the Israeli military like you’ve never seen it before.
In Foxtrot, the second feature from Samuel Maoz, and follow-up to his 2009 Venice Film Festival winner Lebanon, the director drew on his own experience as a conscripted soldier to tell a universal story of grief.
But Maoz’s story also illustrates the surreal aspects of military service, including this scene, which lends the film its title. In it, a bored solider stuck at an outpost in the middle of nowhere, does an impromptu shimmy with his machine gun as partner.
Foxtrot premieres in Venice on Sept. 2 before heading on to Toronto. The Match Factory is handling international sales.
