Following the world premiere of Ana Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch in Venice, Netflix is closing a deal for SVOD rights to the film. Amirpour’s second feature, a dystopian cannibal love story which is in competition on the Lido, premiered Tuesday night to mixed reviews.
Suki Waterhouse stars as Arlen, a young girl exiled from America and left to fend for herself as a member of the “bad batch.” On one side of the batch, Jason Momoa leads a cannibal community of bodybuilders called the Bridge, and on the other side is Comfort, led by a cult leader (Keanu Reeves) offering drugs, raves and security. Jim Carrey plays a mute vagabond who saves the day on more than one occasion.
Vice released Amirpour’s first film, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, and produced Bad Batch. After Netflix locked streaming VOD rights, the film is on its way to Toronto next, where theatrical distribution rights are up for grabs.
