Tom Hardy’s transformation is complete.
The new Venom trailer shows off much more of Hardy’s take on the Marvel anti-hero, who is product of an alien symbiote that bonds with Eddie Brock to become something new.
Hardy appeared at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this month to debut new footage. He also said that his 2015 film Legend, in which he played twin brothers, helped inform his performance in Venom, as he treated Eddie and Venom as two different characters. He also said his son was the reason he decided to take on the role, noting his son is a fan of the character, and that the actor wanted to do something the young boy could watch, noting he often plays aggressive or violent men.
“So I did something where I bite people’s heads off,” Hardy joked.
Hardy and director Ruben Fleischer also revealed one of the antagonists of the piece will be Riot, a symbiote who transfers from person to person, so you never know who it is. Venom is Sony’s first film in what it hopes will be a universe of films based on Spider-Man characters it owns the rights to. Jared Leto is attached to play Morbius, the Living Vampire. Other characters with films in the works include Silver Sable and Black Cat.
Venom also stars Riz Ahmed, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Scott Haze and Reid Scott. Sony opens the film Oct. 5.
