MADRID — Vicente Canales‘ newly launched sales outfit Film Factory announced Friday its first pick up, Daniel Sanchez Arevalo‘s Cousinhood.
The acquisition amounts to a vote of confidence from producer Fernando Bovaira, who heads Mod Producciones, which co-produced the film with Jose Antonio Felez‘s Atipica Films — Sanchez’s regular producer. Bovaira, who produced Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu‘s Biutiful and Alejandro Amenabar‘s Agora gets the pick of the litter when it comes to sales agents.
Film Factory will screen the film, which will be released in Spain by Warner Bros on Feb. 4 with 250 prints, at the European Film Market in Berlin
“Cousinhood is one of the comedies of the year in Spain and it perfectly suits the quality director-driven slate we want to bring to the marketplace,” Canales said. “It’s a great pleasure to start working with top level production companies such as Mod and Atipica. I am very happy they have trusted the Film Factory Project.”
Sanchez’s third feature — a follow up to DarkBlueAlmostBlack, — stars Quim Gutierrez, Raul Arevalo, Adrian Lastra and Antonio De la Torre in a comedy about being jilted just before the wedding.
Canales said he expected to announce a handful of titles as the company’s first slate in the run up to Berlin, including a genre film next week.
