Wong Kar Wai’s Hong Kong-based Block 2 Distribution has appointed industry veteran Virginia Leung as head of international sales.
Prior to joining Block 2, Leung was a director of Distribution Workshop, which she joined in 2008. She had been in charge of the sales of films including Tsui Hark’s The Taking of Tiger Mountain, Ann Hui’s The Simple Life and Dante Lam’s Operation Mekong. She left the company when its international operation moved to Taiwan earlier this year.
Starting her career in sales in 1995, Leung has previously worked for Media Asia, Universe Films Distribution and Mandarin Films.
Leung will oversee the international sales of the Block 2 slate, including Pema Tseden’s Jinpa, premiering in competition at the upcoming Venice Film Festival in the Horizonte Section, the Tony Leung Chiu-wai-starrer Europe Raiders, which opens in China this Friday, and the classic Jettone film library.
