Walmart’s online VOD service Vudu now offers select Warner Bros. Home Entertainment titles in Dolby’s new Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) format and with Dolby Atmos sound.
It was long in the plans, as Dolby announced that Vudu was one of several OTT service providers that intended to support Dolby Vision when the company launched the format in January 2014.
To stream the movies in this format, a consumer requires a Dolby Vision supported TV — currently available is Vizio’s reference series — as well as a home entertainment system that supports its Atmos immersive sound format.
Warner Bros.’ 4K Ultra HD titles that are or will be available in both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos will include Mad Max: Fury Road, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Gallows, San Andreas, American Sniper, Man of Steel, Jupiter Ascending, Edge of Tomorrow and Into the Storm.
Through Vudu, consumers will also have access to select 4K Ultra HD titles in Dolby Vision only, including Vacation, Focus, Get Hard, Run All Night, The Lego Movie, The Great Gatsby, Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Hangover trilogy and Magic Mike XXL.
For a limited time, consumers who purchase a Vizio reference series TV will receive the digital version of Mad Max: Fury Road with Dolby Vision, available on Vudu.
Dolby Vision is also one of the HDR formats that will be supported by the upcoming Ultra HD Blu-Ray format.
