Former Warner Bros. veteran Lynn Whitney has joined the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group as head of worldwide paid media, partnerships, promotions and consumer products.
Whitney bolsters a theatrical marketing team at Lionsgate led by Damon Wolf, who last year replaced Tim Palen as president of worldwide theatrical marketing. She is already at work on global theatrical campaigns for Lionsgate’s 2019 film slate, which includes the Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron romantic comedy Long Shot; John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, starring Keanu Reeves; the Gerald Butler-starrer Angel Has Fallen; and Roland Emmerich’s World War II action film Midway.
Whitney exited Warner Bros. Pictures last August as executive vp worldwide media after a decade leading the media division on the Burbank lot.
“Let’s face it, in our world, Lynn Whitney is the lead singer of the media rock band. Having this rock star join our group at this critical time is a kick ass coup and huge asset for Lionsgate as we reimagine this division and implement strategies that will challenge the norm,” Wolf said Wednesday in a statement.
Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group recently underwent a restructuring, with job losses as the studio centralized its film marketing and distribution efforts in the Santa Monica headquarters.
At Lionsgate, Whitney will build out media campaigns using the studio’s proprietary data tools, the Hollywood studio said. Besides paid media, Whitney will also oversee partnerships, promotions and consumer products, led by Paula Kupfer, who will report to Whitney as part of a new media unit in the studio’s reconfigured global marketing division.
“I am tremendously excited and honored to be a part of the new marketing team Lionsgate is assembling. I love the creative, entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of Lionsgate and more than anything, I love the group Damon is putting in place, bringing so many unique voices to the table,” said Whitney in her own statement.
Whitney joined Warner Bros. Pictures in 1992, and was named senior vp worldwide media in 1999, before being promoted again to executive vp in 2008.
