Warner Bros. Germany has picked up German-speaking rights to Sophie Barthes‘ literary adaptation Madame Bovary and will release the title theatrically in German, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland.

Wasikowska plays Emma Bovary, a young, beautiful woman from northern France who marries the town doctor in order to escape a life of swine farming. But she soon grows tired of her husband and enters into a series of ill-fated love affairs. Logan Marshall-Green, Olivier Gourmet and Laura Carmichael co-star.
Barthes (Cold Souls) co-wrote the screenplay with Rose Barreneche.
Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino of Occupant Entertainment are producing in association with Barthes’ Aden Films and Jaime Mateus-Tique of Aleph Motion Pictures. Berlin-based A Company is a co-producer on the project.
WME helped secure financing for the film and represents U.S. rights, while Radiant Films International is handling foreign sales.
