Lin Pictures, the production banner behind Warner Bros.’ upcoming animated feature The LEGO Movie, is teaming up with digital comics publisher Red Giant Entertainment to bring Red Giant’s Wayward Sons: Legends to the big screen.
The two companies will develop and co-produce the feature, which is out to writers.
Wayward Sons centers on two groups of diverse warring aliens who crash-landed on earth thousands of years ago. With their unending fight, the groups end up inspiring humanity’s every myth, legend and fairy tale, from Greeks gods to dragons to vampires to superheroes.
“The Wayward Sons comics present a great framework for an event science-fiction movie that explores ancient mythologies from various cultures around the world,” said Lin Pictures head Dan Lin in a statement.
Producer Jon Silk brought the project to Lin Pictures and will oversee it for the company.
Producing for Red Giant Entertainment are Isen Robbins and Aimee Schoof (Blue Caprice).
The partnership also includes a television component. The two companies will simultaneously develop a series based on the Wayward Sons universe, including an upcoming book series titled Wayward Souls.
Wayward Sons is one of the top indie digital comics. Since its launch, it has produced 26 full-color issues and four graphic novel collections and generated more than 420 million advertising views worldwide. The comic is also the No. 1 seller on the charts of digital distributor Keenspot, a Comixology partner.
