At Sundance in January, The Hollywood Reporter said that actress Carla Juri was “generating heat in the representation community” for her fearless star turn in the lewd coming-of-age dramedy Wetlands. THR now has exclusively learned that the Swiss native has landed at UTA.
STORY: Explicit ‘Wetlands’ Pushes Sex Boundaries (Even for Sundance)
The German-language Wetlands (Feuchtgebiete) stars Juri as a young woman determined to push the boundaries of her sexuality — personal hygiene and social propriety be damned. The performance landed her best actress nominations at the Lolas (the German Film Academy Awards) as well as the German Bambi Awards.
Juri won back-to-back Swiss Film Prizes in 2011 and 2012, first for her supporting role in the Crash-like ensemble drama 180° before snagging lead actress honors for playing a star-crossed lover in the drama Someone Like Me (Eine wen iig, dr Dällebach Kari). She also was recognized as a Shooting Star at Berlin for that role.
LOCARNO REVIEW: Wetlands (Feuchtgebiete)
Signing with UTA will provide Juri, who is multilingual and trained in acting in the U.S., plenty more opportunities for stateside exposure. She continues to be repped by Anonymous Content and Curtis Brown Group in the U.K., both of whom snapped her up after Wetlands premiered at the Locarno Film Festival last August.
