COLOGNE, Germany – Veteran German director Wim Wenders will receive a lifetime achievement honor at the Bavarian Film Awards on Jan. 20.
Wenders won Bavaria’ top film honor for Wings of Desire (1987) and its sequel, Faraway, So Close! (1993). His latest work, the 3D dance film Pina, is on the documentary shortlist for next year’s Oscars and is Germany’s official candidate in the foreign language category.
“Wim Wenders is one of the most renowned filmmakers worldwide,” Bavarian premier Horst Seehofer announcing the lifetime achievement honor. “With his 3D masterpiece Pina he pulls in the audience and teaches us a whole new way to see.”
Previous Bavarian film prize lifetime achievement honorees have included Oscar-winners Volker Schlondorff and Maximilian Schell.
