After spending months shrouded in mystery, the third Wolverine film has revealed its name (Logan) and its first images this week.
The latest batch points to the film having some quite gruesome violence. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) has been slicing up badguys on screen since 2000’s X-Men, but those PG-13 rated outings have been largely bloodless. This R-rated third installment is looking to have violence like any we’ve seen from X-Men so far.
The franchise found its biggest hit ever with the ultra-violent and R-rated Deadpool, but that violence was heightened and played for fun. Logan‘s will be more grounded (and thus more disturbing).
Here’s the arm of a person who got on the wrong side of Logan’s claws:
The movie’s Instagram account for Logan also revealed a keep out sign, written in Spanish, suggesting Logan makes his way down south during the film.
The account shared yet another mysterious photo on Sunday:
Director James Mangold has also shared a photo of an aged Prof. X (Patrick Stewart) in the film, which takes place in the future features an aging Logan who deals with chronic pain and a diminished healing factor.
Mangold has said this will be a violent and grounded take on the character.
“Basically, if you’re on the make for a hyper choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying CG f–kathon, this ain’t your movie,” reads a page from the script, which Mangold shared this week. “In this flick, people get hurt or killed when shit falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy, like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won’t bounce. They will die.”
Logan is set for March 3, 2017.
