The Christopher Plummer-starring movie Remember by director Atom Egoyan has been picked to screen as the opening night film at the Woodstock Film Festival, which runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4.
Fellow Canadian director Guy Maddin will close the Hudson Valley festival with The Forbidden Room, which stars Charlotte Rampling and Geraldine Chaplin and bowed at Sundance. Both Egoyan and Maddin, whose latest movies will also screen at the Toronto Film Festival, will receive Maverick awards at Woodstock’s 16th edition during prize-giving on Oct. 3.
WFF co-founder and executive director Meira Blaustein said the New York arts colony’s fiercely independent festival aims with these Canadian film screenings to increase its foreign film offerings.
“Not only are we honoring two celebrated and visionary Canadian filmmakers and book-ending the festival with their works, but paired with our already expanded World Cinema program, this year’s festival is a platform for outstanding foreign work and we could not be more thrilled,” she said in a statement.
