X-Men: Days of Future Past Still Fassbender - H 2014
Twentieth Century FoxThe very title of X-Men: Apocalypse sounds somewhat climactic, and according to screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg, that might be intentional. Next year’s movie, he says, is the finale of the current cycle of stories.
“It delivers on the dramatic story and emotion of the last two movies,” Kinberg told Collider in a recent interview promoting The Martian (Kinberg is a producer on the latter project). “It feels like the culmination of the four main characters really — [James] McAvoy, [Michael] Fassbender, Nic Hoult, and [Jennifer Lawrence].”
It’s more than just the culmination of the story of Xavier, Magneto, Beast and Mystique, however; Kinberg also said that Apocalypse is “a bigger movie in both physical scale and I would say emotional stakes too [than X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past] because it is the culmination of this mini-trilogy of stories.”
Lawrence has already publicly stated that she’ll be finished with the X-Men franchise after Apocalypse, although Hoult and Fassbender have both suggested that they’ll be happy to return for future installments. Recasting Lawrence’s role in any future movies won’t be a problem, of course; Mystique’s power is changing her shape to resemble whoever she wants.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be released May 2016.
