What happens when a toad gets struck by lightning?
We’ll get a second chance to answer that question with this summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will see Evan Jonigkeit play Toad.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jonigkeit will play a younger version of the villainous character, who was last seen on the big screen in 2000’s X-Men, with Ray Park (Darth Maul himself) playing the role.

Jonigkeit spoke about the role with MTV, saying there will be a through line between his Days of Future Past performance and Park’s portrayal of Toad in the 2000 film.
“I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad,” he said. “X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it’s a generation story of how he came to be. It’s really cool.”

Jonigkeit added that the character won’t look a whole lot like he did in the original X-Men. (Does that mean Toad is ditching the black contacts?)
Days of Future Past reunites X-Men director Bryan Singer with original cast members, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman. It also stars X-Men: First Class actors Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult.
The Fox film hits theaters on May 23.
