Zac Efron and Robert De Niro are in talks to star in road trip comedy Dirty Grandpa.
Talks are very early on, but if they stick Efron will play a young man who is tricked into driving his grandfather (De Niro), a perverted former Army general who thinks his grandson is about to marry the wrong woman, to Florida for spring break.
I Give It a Year helmer Dan Mazer, who’s worked with Sacha Baron Cohen on Borat, Bruno and The Dictator as a writer, is directing.
The project was originally set up at Universal but is now being packaged by QED, which will be shopping the project in Toronto. Barry Josephson is producing.
Efron most recently starred in comedies That Awkward Moment and the hit Neighbors. He’ll star in the DJ film We Are Your Friends, and he’s repped by CAA, Alchemy Entertainment and Felker Toczek.
De Niro’s recent films include Grudge Match and American Hustle. He’ll next be seen in boxing drama Hands of Stone and Nancy Meyers‘ comedy The Intern. He’s repped by CAA and Grubman Shire & Meiselas.
Mazer, who was also a writer on Da Ali G Show, is repped by United Agents, 3 Arts Entertainment and Nelson Davis Wetzstein.
