Former One Direction member Zayn Malik and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan have set a Twitter record in India.
A selfie taken by Khan with Malik at last week’s Asian Awards in London has become the top retweet of all time in terms of messages posted from an Indian Twitter handle.
According to Twitter India, the selfie has crossed 120,000 retweets mark and has been favorited 170,000 times since Khan posted it on April 17 with the message, “This kid is so cool. May Allah bless him. Dinner time at the Asian Awards.”
According to Twitter India, Khan is the Indian personality with the second-highest number of followers on his account, 12.6 million, behind Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who has 14.4 million followers.
Khan was honored with an outstanding contribution to cinema award, while Malik was honored for outstanding contributions to music at the Asian Awards. The event was Malik’s first public appearance since his now well-publicized split from pop super group One Direction.
Twitter India congratulated Khan with a tweet on Friday. It said: “Congrats @iamsrk, this selfie of yours is now the most Retweeted Tweet ever in India!”
Held annually in London, the first Asian Awards took place in 2010 and honor Asian stars worldwide. Past honorees include Oscar-winning Indian composer A R Rahman, late Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra and action star Jackie Chan. The awards previously also bestowed a posthumous honor upon Bruce Lee.
