Zsa Zsa Gabor‘s ninth husband, Prince Frederic Prinz von Anhalt, threw her a 25th wedding anniversary party on Sunday that the actress watched from her bed. Gabor is in ill health and had part of leg amputated in January.
Quincy Jones, Phyllis Diller, Robert Blake and Frank Stallone were among the guests at the soiree, which took place at the couple’s Los Angeles home.
Von Anhalt said in a video posted on his Facebook page that his wife wore a tiara and a pink dress for the occasion and deserved the royal treatment, “Look, my wife is 94 years old. She should have everything she wants and should have everything large. This big party is not for the guests, not for the media, nor for me — this big party is for Zsa Zsa.”
He also said he wanted to commemorate being Gabor’s longest-lasting spouse, “It’s 25 years of marriage. 25 years of marriage here in Hollywood is a big thing. It’s 25 years with Zsa Zsa Gabor, it’s a big thing, it’s a huge thing, and I made it. So many husbands didn’t make it — they only made it a year or two. I made it 25 years so I must have done something right.”
His secret to long marriage? Fighting out differences “on the spot.”
Von Anhalt also paid for a billboard on Sunset Boulevard to commemorate the occasion that read “Prince Frederic & Princess Zsa Zsa: 25 years and counting. August 14th – please celebrate with us.”
One sour note to the party stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Von Anhalt and Gabor’s daughter Francesca Hilton about Gabor’s medical care and visitation rights. Von Anhalt had said the cake for the party would be provided by Spago but the restaurant’s founder Barbara Lazaroff refuted that claim in a statement posted by the Los Angeles Times, “Spago is neither providing a cake or any cuisine for this event whatsoever. I fully support Zsa Zsa’s daughter Francesca Hilton in her quest to have visitation rights to see her mother and to receive independent evaluation of Zsa Zsa’s mental and physical health.”
