When battling a shark-alligator, you want Natalie Portman on your side.
In the latest trailer for the sci-fi feature Annihilation, Portman plays a biologist who leads an all-female team into Area X, a land filled with biological anomalies that may or may not want to overthrow humanity.
In the trailer, the task force — consisting of characters played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson and Tuva Novotny — is seen passing through a mysterious shimmering wall into Area X and encountering peculiar (and possibly lethal) plants and animals.
Alex Garland, the director behind the 2015’s break-out sci-fi film Ex Machina, wrote and directed the feature, which will hit theaters in the U.S. on Feb 23 via Paramount. Netflix will distribute the film internationally.
