'$100,000 Pyramid' Contestant Confuses Barack Obama With Osama bin Laden in On-Air Flub

The mistake happened during Sunday night's episode of the ABC game show.

On Sunday's episode of The $100,000 Pyramid on ABC, a contestant made the mistake of mixing up former al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden with President Barack Obama.

The game show, which pairs a contestant with a celebrity as they offer clues based on a topic for their partner to guess, saw the contestant in question, a new father named Evan Kaufman, paired with Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows.

As Kaufman's round began, starting with the easiest topics at the bottom of the pyramid, the hint in the question was "People Whose Last Name Is Obama." Instead of citing the former president or his wife, Michelle, Kaufman first said "bin Laden," before offering the name Barack after a pause. Meadows quickly offered the correct answer after Kaufman provided the former president's first name.

Kaufman's flub was mocked on Twitter by viewers of the show.

Prior to the round, Kaufman had noted to host Michael Strahan that he and his wife were "very tired" as new parents.

The clip can be seen in the tweet below.

On Monday, Kaufman posted a series of tweets about the incident. "So. This is me below. Racist $100,000 Pyramid Guy. Let me tell you the story about perhaps the most embarrassing moment of my life. #KillMe," Kaufman captioned a video of his flub.

"I was on $100,000 Pyramid," Kaufman continued. "I’m playing with Tim Meadows, one of my heroes from SNL. My son had been born two weeks prior. I am very tired but excited to win money for my family. We play up the whole tired Dad thing."

He went on to explain how the producers of the show told him to "read the questions carefully" in the final round and then, "The first square flips. I breathe. I read 'People Whose Last Name is Obama.' I freeze. There’s only one. BARACK OBAMA. The man I would have voted for three times*! (*H/T Jordan Peele)."

He continued in subsequent tweets: "Here’s what my brain decided. Who is associated with Obama? Who did he kill? What sounds like Obama!... And so you have this perfectly viral clip. A clip that is insanely funny. It would be so funny if it wasn’t me."

"I leave knowing that my day of reckoning is coming. Maybe they can cut it out? They can't...it's timed," Kaufman tweeted in conclusion. "I leave with $8500...and the story of the worst pyramid guess of all-time."
