'12 Years a Slave,' 'August: Osage County' Head to San Diego Film Festival

'12 Years a Slave'

Set in the pre-Civil War United States, the film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Brad Pitt and Chiwetel Ejiofor as a free black man from upstate New York who's abducted and sold into slavery.

Judd Apatow and Mariel Hemingway will be honored at the fest this year.

The San Diego Film Festival on Wednesday unveiled its complete slate of films, including Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave as its opener and John Wells' August: Osage County as its closer.

The fest runs from Oct. 2-6.

Judd Apatow will receive the Visionary Filmmaker Award at this year's Tribute Gala on Oct. 3. Mariel Hemingway, whose Running From Crazy makes its West Coast premiere at SDFF, will receive the fest's Humanitarian Award on Oct. 5 in partnership with Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital.

The festival features more than 100 screenings in eight categories: features, documentaries, Native American, music, sports, fashion, world issues and film shorts. See the complete lineup below.
