'2012' leads Hollywood weekend sweep

Disaster pic tops foreign dominance of Japan's best five

TOKYO -- “2012” had a big opening over the three-day weekend (Nov. 21-23) taking 88 million yen (nearly $10 million) on 710,000 admissions, after bowing a week later than most other major territories.

It was a weekend 1-2 for Sony in its backyard with “This Is It” dropping off the top after four weeks.

Hollywood movies dominated the top four -- a rare occurrence in recent times – with “A Christmas Carol” at number three and “Inglorious Basterds” debuting at five.

Toho/NTV’s comedy, “No More Cry” was the only Japanese production in the top five.
