A select number of categories were announced at a press conference with all 84 categories later shared on the Recording Academy's website.

The nominees for the 2019 Grammy Awards were announced Friday morning.

A select number of categories were announced during a press conference, broadcast on CBS This Morning and online at Apple Music at 8:30 a.m. ET. All 84 categories were then revealed on the Recording Academy's website at 8:45 a.m.

The Grammy Awards honor the best albums and songs that were released between Oct. 1, 2017 and Sept. 30, 2018. The 2019 ceremony increased the competition in the top four categories — album of the year, song of the year, record of the year and best new artist — by including eight nominees instead of five.

Recording Academy participants have until Jan. 9 to cast their votes.

The 61st annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles and air on CBS on Feb. 10, 2019.
