280 films set for Madrid docu fest

MADRID -- The 4th annual Documenta Madrid will offer 280 documentaries during its May 4-13 run, organizers said Friday as they took the wraps off this year's international documentary film festival.

City councilor for the arts Alicia Moreno, along with cultural activity coordinator Manuel Lagos and festival director Antonio Delgado, said the festival will offer 400 screenings as well as access to an additional 2,500 documentaries in the Madrid Image Center's archives.

Documenta Madrid comprises four sections. New Spanish Cinema offers forays into the documentary genre by established fiction directors; ; Registrando Olvidos (Registering the Forgotten) showcases Latin America's unreleased works; Documenta el Vinos showcases trips through wine countries; and Michael Moore and Coetaneos II will screen the best in socially-conscious documentaries from the U.S.

Additionally, the festival will offer a retrospective on the documentary works of Austrian director Ulrich Seidl.
