Online food-and-drink phenoms Alie Ward and Georgia Hardstark have graduated from web series to TV with their new six-episode Cooking Channel show Tripping Out. The pair – who launched a career off of a 2009 viral lark in which they straight-facedly instructed viewers on how to create an over-the-top McNuggetini cocktail – is now traveling the country, from Alaska to Miami, on Anthony Bourdain-esque adventures.
To celebrate both the premiere of the show and the start of summer, THR asked Ward and Hardstark to conjure a trio of fresh libations just for the season. They’re no joke at all.
4 oz porter or stout
1/2 cup dulce de leche ice cream
1 oz coffee liqueur
“Scoop ice cream into a highball glass and pour coffee liqueur over it. Slowly pour porter or stout over both and finish with a Luxardo cherry on top. Enjoy dinner, a drink and deadline-meeting caffeine in one chalice of multitasking.”
Bittersweet Moscato Spritzer
4 oz moscato wine
4 oz sparkling water
1.5 oz grapefruit juice
Dash Peychaud's bitters
Sprig of rosemary for garnish
“In a tall glass full of crushed ice, add chilled moscato, grapefruit juice and sparkling water, then a dash of Peychaud's bitters. Mix and garnish with a sprig of rosemary, then ogle the pool boy from behind a ficus.”
The 'Shut Up It's Healthy'
1.5 oz gin
1 oz ginger liqueur
.5 oz lemon juice
2 oz berry kombucha
Fresh ginger coin, 1/4 inch thick
Sage leaf for garnish
“In a cocktail shaker, muddle the ginger coin to express the juice. Add gin, ginger liqueur and lemon juice and shake over ice, then pour into a lowball glass filled with ice. Top with Kombucha, stir and garnish with a sage leaf (smack sage between palms first to release aromatics and all of your aggressive tension). Enjoy a cleansed soul, a probiotic belly, a detoxed liver, and a slightly retoxed liver.”
