4Kids inks deal for 'Defenders'

4Kids Entertainment has licensed television broadcast and merchandising rights from Nelvana Enterprises for the 2-D animated action-adventure show "Di-Gata Defenders."

The show will premiere on 4Kids TV -- which airs Saturday mornings on Fox affiliates nationwide -- this weekend.

"Di-Gata Defenders," co-produced by Nelvana Ltd. and LuxAnimation, follows the adventures of four young heroes as they protect the Realm against the evil Order of Infinis.

" 'Di-Gata Defenders' is an exciting, high-action property that is a great addition to 4Kids TV's fall lineup," 4Kids chairman and CEO Alfred Kahn said.

The series has spawned a toy line that includes dice, trading cards and action figures. The products are set to launch in the U.S. in the spring. Also scheduled for spring is the release of the "Di-Gata" handheld game for the Nintendo DS.
