Dr. Barbara Sturm has developed both Anti-Pollution skincare drops and Anti-Pollution Food supplements.

“It is only now dawning on the public that they need [pollution] protection, just as they learned in the 1980s that they needed to use SPF to protect against UV rays,” says skincare specialist-to-the-stars Dr. Barbara Sturm.

The proliferation of anti-pollution skincare products are an apt reminder to literally save face during Earth Month. This new category of beauty products answers the much-needed call to protect skin from the damaging daily effects of life in a modern world, including everything from car emissions to blue light from mobile phones.

Here are five Hollywood-approved, pollution-proofing skincare finds from Dr. Barbara Sturm, Jordan Samuel Skin, Osea and Cindy Crawford’s Meaningful Beauty.

Dr. Barbara Sturm Molecular Cosmetics

“Topical skin protection and ingestible supplements that protect us against the negative effects of both blue-light exposure and also the tremendous and growing air pollutants that constantly bombard our skin are now more important than ever,” German skin specialist-to-the-stars Dr. Barbara Sturm, who will open her first U.S. outpost in New York next week,  told The Hollywood Reporter. “It is only now dawning on the public that they need [pollution] protection, just as they learned in the 1980s that they needed to use SPF to protect against UV rays.”

Kim Kardashian West, Angela Bassett, Cher, Kate Moss and Gwyneth Paltrow are all fans of Dr. Barbara Sturm's Molecular Cosmetics, which take a scientific approach to skincare. Known for her custom blood plasma-infused MC1 skin cream, Dr. Sturm also offers $145 Anti-Pollution Drops that shield skin from the aging effects of the environment with ingredients including cocoa seed extract to fight light from digital devices and disodium EDTA to deactivate heavy metal ions.

And Sturm has supplements that do the work from the inside out. Her detoxifying $95 Anti-Pollution Food capsules are said to firm up the immune system, fight oxidative and inflammatory damage, and protect the skin on a cellular level with ingredients such as ashwagandha, ginseng, and purslane.

Osea

By using seaweed to naturally battle environmental aggressors like pollution, Malibu-based beauty brand Osea has found favor with stars such as Lea Michele and Victoria Beckham. The $48 Atmosphere Protection Cream, a lightweight daily moisturizer with a clean matte finish, protects the skin from air pollution and extremely dry climates with the help of certified organic algae and avocado oil.

"Seaweed has this amazing ability to naturally form a protective barrier on the surface of your skin to fight pollution and other environmental aggressors," said Osea CEO Jenefer Palmer. "This is in large part an evolutionary benefit of a plant that has managed to survive for thousands of years in such extreme conditions and climates."

Meaningful Beauty

Supermodel Cindy Crawford's Meaningful Beauty skincare line, developed with Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh, includes a $65 Environmental Protecting Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30. Calling on Buddleja flower extract to combat infrared and blue light from phones, televisions and computer screens, the cream also has a dose of melon extract to fight free radicals and a "pollution protection complex," a cocktail of ingredients that reduces the adverse effects of pollutants. Naturally, the brand has attracted Crawford's supermodel daughter Kaia Gerber, along with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ellen Pompeo, who has served as brand ambassador.

Jordan Samuel Skin

After an 11-year career as a professional ballet dancer, Jordan Samuel Pacitti ventured into the beauty industry to launch his eponymous skincare line in 2013. Since its debut, Jordan Samuel Skin has garnered a cult following (counting Julia Stiles and Adam Rippon, who keep his cruelty-free line in their arsenals). Set out to directly target pollution, inflammation and irritation, Pacitti created a $33 Soothing Facial Oil — a mix of antioxidant-rich oils such as cranberry seed, sweet almond and marula and CoQ10, known to help antioxidants do their job while simultaneously protecting against UV light damage.
