A 'Chance' on love: Hoffman and Thompson

Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson are taking their chances on the romantic drama "Last Chance Harvey" for Overture Films.

The Oscar-winning actors have signed on to star, and BAFTA-winning British helmer Joel Hopkins ("Jump Tomorrow") is set to direct from a screenplay he penned.

The story centers on a man (Hoffman) down on his luck who finds an unlikely companion (Thompson) while in London attending his daughter's wedding.

Shooting is set to begin in September in London.

"While writing the script, it was always my dream for Dustin and Emma to play these characters, but I never imagined I'd actually be fortunate enough to see that dream come true," Hopkins said.

Process' Tim Perell ("Shortbus," "Trust the Man") is producing alongside Nicola Usborne ("Jump Tomorrow," "The Best Thief in the World"). Jawal Nga is executive producing.

Overture's Robert Kessel will oversee production.

The fledgling company, headed by CEO Chris McGurk, continues to add to its slate, which includes the Charlize Theron starrer "Ferris Wheel," Overture's first acquisition. The producer and distributor also is in active development with "105 Degrees and Rising," a co-venture with Echo Lake Entertainment, and the Diane Keaton-Queen Latifah starrer "Mad Money."

Hoffman, who stars in the upcoming "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium," is repped by Endeavor and attorney Bert Fields.

Thompson, who next stars in the summer tentpole "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," is repped by WMA and Lorraine Hamilton in the U.K.
