The former Viacom high-flier will become vp programming at the British joint venture between A+E Networks and pay TV giant BSkyB.

LONDON -- A+E Networks U.K., a joint venture between cable channel A+E Networks and satellite broadcaster BSkyB, has hired former Viacom high-flier Heather Jones as vp programming.

Jones, who will take up the post later this month, will be tasked with A+E Networks U.K.’s programming strategy across the company’s channels in the U.K., Central Europe, Benelux, Scandinavia, the Middle East, Greece and Africa.

As vp programming, Jones will be charged with driving audience growth through original commissions and co-productions and A+E Networks’ U.S. output and third-party acquisitions. She will also be responsible for increasing the international expansion of A+E Networks U.K.’s portfolio of channels, which include History, Crime & Investigation Network and the scheduled U.K. launch of Lifetime in the fall.

A+E Networks U.K. managing director Tom Davidson said Jones' "proven track record of driving audience growth and channel expansion across a variety of international networks and content genres makes her the perfect candidate for the role."

Jones was previously managing director of independent production company North One Television, part of the All3Media group.

Prior to that she held roles as director of television at Viacom U.K. -- where she was responsible for content and creativity across the MTV and Comedy Central portfolios -- and as managing director at Paramount Comedy, where she led the channel’s rebrand in 2006.

Jones replaces Adam MacDonald, who is leaving to take up the role as director of Sky 1.
