'A Man Called Ove' Producer Backs Nordic Thriller Series 'Alex'
'Edge of Tomorrow' actor Dragomir Mrsic co-created and will star in the six-part series about a corrupt cop who tries to break free of his criminal connections.
Nicklas Wikstrom Nicastro, producer of Oscar-nominated Swedish dramedy A Man Called Ove, has signed on to produce Alex, a new Nordic crime drama from Sweden's MTG Studios.
Swedish actor Dragomir Mrsic (Easy Money, Edge of Tomorrow) co-created the series with producer Mikael Cross and will star in the titular role as Alex, a corrupt and violent cop who tries to leave the criminal underworld behind. Sweden's Rakel Warmlander co-stars as Frida, his new partner, who has secretly been assigned to frame Alex.
Lead writers on the series are Niklas Rockstrom (Before We Die) and Michael Hjorth (Sebastian Bergman).
“It’s so exciting to create a raw and tough thriller series that goes further than what we usually get to see,” said Mrsic. “Alex is set in a brutal criminal environment that I’ve experienced firsthand, and that viewers can now experience without compromises.”
Alex is the latest original drama commissioned by MTG Studios, the company behind Lionsgate TV's Swedish Dicks.
Nicastro will produce Alex for SF Studios, with Sweden's Film i Vast and London-based Nevision as co-producers. About Premium Content and Lumiere will handle international distribution. Shooting is set to start this spring.
MTG's Nordic video streaming service Viaplay will premiere Alex in spring 2018.
