A&E, ZDF re-up old pact, strike new one

CANNES -- A&E Television Networks and Germany's ZDF Enterprises have re-upped their existing programming and co-production agreement for another three years and have signed a syndication deal giving ZDF rights to A&E's long-running "Modern Marvels" for the German-speaking territories.

The programming side of the deal will see German public broadcaster ZDF pick up programming from A&E's History Channel, while the German versions of History and Biography Channel acquire German programming from ZDF.

Among the titles under the deal are ZDF's two-part miniseries "The Last Voyage of the Gustloff" and the 13-part series "Final Days of an Icon," which traces historic figures who died under mysterious circumstances.

Under the new co-production agreement, ZDF Enterprises and the U.S.' History Channel will co-produce nine non-fiction programs for broadcast on their respective channels.
