'Ab Fab' Returns for 20th Anniversary Special This Sunday on BBC America
The cult fave BBC sitcom on the fashion business stars British comediennes Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley.
Legions of Ab Fab fans, unite. The legendary 1990's infamous British tv series from BBC 1, about a blowsy full-of-herself middle aged fashion pr woman (Jennifer Saunders) and her hard drinking over-the-top magazine editor friend (Joanna Lumley), will be back this Sunday at 10 p.m. on both BBC America and the Logo network, for a three episode arc, advertised as their 20th Anniversary Special.
In Britain, this new episode aired as a Christmas special, but here, it will start 2012 off with (flat) belly laughs this coming weekend. Fashion people around the world will watch - and no doubt see behavior reminiscent of people they know - or themselves.
Ab Fab ran for a number of seasons, starting in 1992 and ending in 1995. Then it did a few comebacks in spurts, (2001 to 2003, then briefly in 2005). And there've been rumors of an Ab Fab long form film forever. Doing interviews in the British papers for the Christmas special recently, its creator and star Jennifer Saunders confirmed that it will, in fact, become a film. However, she neglected to say when or who's financing it.
What's new in the new 2012 Ab Fab? The set is the same - Edina's house, and all the regulars are their: her assistant Bubble (Jane Horrocks), her wacky mother and her errant daughter Saffy. But now there are current references to websites, twitter, blogs, etc. Patsy (played by the hilarious Lumley) has the same conehead bouffant blonde hairdo, and Edina (Saunders) still wears outfits that harken back to the hippie days of the 1970s. Fashion may change - but Ab Fab stays the same.
